This site is dedicated to the memory of Joan Coles.

Joan Coles, daughter of Doris and John Wilson and elder sister to Carol, was born in Bermondsey on 29th March 1947. She met her beloved husband, David, when she was 15 and they married 3 years later on 24th December 1964. She was a dedicated and devoted mother to 3 children: Deborah, Julie and Martin, whom she loved dearly. Being a very family orientated person, Joan was delighted when she became a glamorous grandmother and cherished her seven grandchildren: James, Stacey, Steven, Daniel, Samantha, Shanel and Martin. She took an active role in their upbringing and enjoyed spending time with them. She would use every opportunity to get everyone together for family gatherings, Christmas, Easter and Birthday’s being particularly busy times. Joan was a fiercely proud, caring and hard working person who spent 27 years as a home carer for the elderly and disabled and latterly as a teaching assistant at her local primary school. Joan enjoyed reading, dancing, shopping, theatre and eating out. She was exceptionally house-proud and had a particular interest and flair for home design and DIY. Following diagnosis of ovarian cancer in 2004 Joan discovered a new interest, that of travel. She conquered her fear of flying and in four years she visited Portugal, Crete, Turkey, Tunisia, Belgium, Milan and Paris. Australia on two occasions, visiting Bangkok and Singapore on route. Tenerife twice and Egypt three times; enjoying the Red Sea Riviera and a visit to Cairo to see the pyramids. She fulfilled her life long ambition to travel on the Orient Express, presented as a gift from her family on her 60th birthday. Joan passed away at home on 28th March 2009 with her loving family at her side. She will be greatly missed and it will never be the same without her. Words cannot describe the void she leaves in the lives of those who loved her most.
